Music consultant for independent artists
Direct answers from 20+ years in the music business
You have the music. What you probably do not have is a clear read on how the business around it actually works.
Most artists learn that by trial and error. Wrong studio, wrong deal, a tour that costs more than it brings in, a release with no plan behind it. That education is expensive and it takes years.
A music consultant shortens it. AER Management has spent more than 20 years inside this business, managing artists, booking national tours and running a label division. We tell you what works, what does not, and where you are about to spend money you will not get back.
No retainer. No percentage of your masters. You pay once and you get answers.
What a music consultant actually does for your career
Most artists come to us with the same question in different words: what should I be doing right now? Here is the ground we cover.
Label deal or independent
Every artist wants a deal until they read one. We walk you through what a label actually gives you, what it takes in return, and whether your specific situation calls for a deal, a distribution agreement, or staying independent. Sometimes the honest answer is that you are not ready to be shopped yet, and that is worth knowing before you spend a year trying.
Release planning and studio decisions
When to release, how much to spend recording, which producer is worth the rate, and how to build a rollout that does not collapse the week after drop day. Most artists overspend on recording and underspend on everything after it.
Touring without going broke
Routing, guarantees, what a promoter will actually pay you at your level, and how to read an offer. We book national tours. We know what the numbers look like from both sides of the table. How artist booking fees are structured
Licensing to film, TV and games
Sync is real money and most independent artists never pursue it properly. We cover what libraries and supervisors want, how your paperwork needs to look, and why unclear splits kill deals before they start.
Building a fanbase that pays
Followers are not income. We work on the gap between attention and revenue: merch pricing, direct to fan, streaming reality versus streaming mythology, and where your effort actually converts.

Music consulting FAQ
What does a music consultant do?
A music consultant gives you strategic direction on your career without taking a management cut or a piece of your rights. We help you decide what to do next, where to spend, what to avoid, and how the business side of your career should be structured. You keep full ownership and control.
How much does music consulting cost?
Our plans are $100 for a one hour consultation, $250 for three hours, and $500 for six months of unlimited access. There are no additional fees and no percentage taken from your earnings.
Do I need a manager or a music consultant?
A manager works your career day to day and takes a percentage, typically 15 to 20 percent, for as long as the agreement runs. A consultant gives you the strategy for a fixed fee and then you execute it. Most artists are not ready for a manager and would get more from consulting. We will tell you honestly which one you need, even when the answer is neither.
Is music consulting worth it for an independent artist?
It depends on what you are about to spend. If you are weighing a $5,000 recording budget, a tour offer, or a contract, a $100 consultation that stops one bad decision has paid for itself several times over. If you are not making financial decisions yet, focus on the music first.
How is this different from a music career coach?
A music business coach usually works on mindset, habits and accountability. We work on the business: deals, money, contracts, touring economics and licensing. Both have value. Ours is the one that deals with the paperwork and the numbers.
What happens after I pay?
We contact you to schedule and send a short questionnaire about your situation so the consultation starts with context instead of background. After the call, six month plan clients receive their written roadmap by email.
Ready to stop guessing?
You will spend money on your career this year either way. The only question is whether you spend it on the right things.
